In summary: GDPS Ltd delivers upstream, midstream and downstream oil & gas electrical services, flow stations, rigs, offshore platforms, refineries and terminals, with ATEX/IECEx hazardous-area expertise, 24/7 availability and a 2-hour emergency response across the Niger Delta, Lagos and Abuja.

Nigeria's oil & gas sector accounts for over 85% of the nation's foreign exchange earnings (Source: NNPC), and every barrel of it moves through electrical infrastructure that must perform flawlessly in some of the harshest operating conditions on the planet. GDPS Ltd provides oil & gas electrical solutions across the full value chain: upstream flow stations and drilling rigs, midstream pipelines and terminals, and downstream refineries, gas plants and petrochemical facilities.

From our Port Harcourt headquarters, we support complex offshore operations in the Niger Delta, refinery electrical systems in the Port Harcourt-Warri corridor, and the new generation of mega-facilities like the Dangote Refinery in Lagos and NLNG Train 7 on Bonny Island. If your operation produces, processes or moves hydrocarbons in Nigeria, our licensed engineers keep your electrons flowing safely.

Upstream: Flow Stations, Drilling Rigs & Offshore Facilities

Upstream electrical systems live where failure is measured in deferred production, thousands of barrels per day. We design, install, and maintain:

  • Flow station and manifold electrical systems, power distribution, motor control centres, wellhead control panels, and chemical injection skid electrics for onshore and swamp locations across Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom.
  • Oil rig electrical contracting in Rivers State and beyond, rig power management systems, SCR houses, drilling motor maintenance, top drive electrics, and camp power distribution for land and swamp rigs.
  • Offshore production platforms, main and emergency switchgear, platform blackout recovery, crane and pedestal electrical maintenance, and living-quarter electrical safety upgrades.
  • Gas compression and processing, compressor motor control, anti-surge control power, and utility system electrification for gas gathering and processing facilities.

Downstream: Refineries, Depots & Petrochemical Plants

Downstream facilities combine continuous processes with extensive hazardous areas, a combination that demands both technical depth and rigorous safety discipline. Our downstream scope includes refinery electrical system maintenance and upgrades, tank farm and depot electrification, loading gantry and metering skid electrics, and utility power distribution for process units. We support turnaround (TAR) scopes with 24/7 shift teams: switchgear overhaul, protection relay testing, motor refurbishment and pre-startup commissioning, the work that determines whether a restart hits its window or slips a costly week.

Hazardous Area Expertise: ATEX, IECEx & Nigerian Standards

Hydrocarbon facilities are classified into hazardous zones, and electrical equipment in those zones is a primary ignition risk. Our engineers hold ATEX/IECEx competence certification and work across all protection concepts, Ex d flameproof, Ex e increased safety, Ex i intrinsic safety, Ex p pressurized. We maintain Ex equipment registers, perform grade A/B/C inspections, and remediate the degradation that tropical heat and humidity inflict on flamepaths, glands and enclosures. Every installation complies with IEC 60364, BS 7671, the Nigerian Electrical Code, and NUPRC (formerly DPR) safety guidelines, with documentation that stands up to any operator or regulator audit.

Electrical Safety Inspections for Oil & Gas Facilities

What should a credible inspection include? Ours deliver: infrared thermography of every accessible switchboard and termination; insulation resistance, earth loop impedance and RCD testing; protection relay secondary injection and grading verification; Ex equipment condition assessment against the hazardous area register; earthing and lightning protection testing; and a compliance gap report against NEMSA regulations and your own HSE standards. You receive a prioritized rectification plan, and if you choose, our teams execute the fixes under the same warranty-backed standards as all GDPS work.

Nigerian Content, International Standards

As an indigenous company registered with the NCDMB, GDPS Ltd helps operators meet Nigerian Content Act requirements without compromising on technical quality. We invest in Nigerian engineers, Nigerian training, and Nigerian supply chains, and we deliver to the same IEC, IEEE and operator specifications applied on Egina FPSO, Bonga Southwest, Agbami and NLNG's Bonny Island trains. It is a combination the market asked for and too few contractors deliver: local content with zero compromise.

Whether you need an emergency crew on a flow station in Delta State tonight, a hazardous-area remediation program across your terminal, or a long-term electrical maintenance partner for your Lagos refinery operations, call GDPS Ltd. We answer 24/7, mobilize in 2 hours, and warranty every job.

Case Study, Refinery Electrical

Emergency Switchgear Restoration, Port Harcourt Refinery Corridor

When a critical low-voltage switchboard failed at a major refining facility in the Port Harcourt corridor, production across an entire process unit hung in the balance. The call reached GDPS at 02:14 on a Sunday.

Our emergency crew was on site before 04:00, isolated the fault to a catastrophic breaker failure compounded by degraded busbar insulation, and had a temporary bypass configuration safely energized by dawn, restoring the unit while permanent repairs proceeded. We sourced and installed a replacement ACB, re-torqued and tested all busbar joints, performed protection relay verification across the board, and thermographically surveyed the entire lineup under load.

Result: less than 6 hours of unit downtime against a worst-case multi-day outage, a permanent repair completed within the week, and a root-cause report the client's insurer accepted without query. The facility has since placed GDPS on a retained 24/7 emergency response contract.

Frequently Asked Questions

A proper inspection covers thermographic (infrared) surveys of switchgear and connections, insulation resistance and earth loop impedance testing, hazardous area (Ex) equipment verification against ATEX/IECEx registers, protection relay testing and grading checks, earthing and lightning protection integrity, and NEMSA/Nigerian Electrical Code compliance, all delivered with a rectification plan and certification.
